Charlotte Dobre Almost Kept Her Best Product a Secret, and Then Named It Anyway
The YouTuber's bag holds sunscreen powder, a power bank, a wedding photograph and one tint she admits she wanted to gatekeep.
Charlotte Dobre carries a heavier bag than usual in New York, on the reasonable grounds that a lot happens there.
The YouTuber, known for candid commentary and a fast delivery, opened up her tote, a black over-the-shoulder bag chosen to match a polka dot halter top and capris. What is inside splits neatly into working equipment and things that are simply hers.
The one she did not want to tell anyone about
The most useful item is a product she almost withheld.
"This stuff is my holy grail," she said of the Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Lip and Cheek Tint.
The reason is specific and genuinely helpful for anyone in the same position. "If you are a girly that doesn't tan, this will actually make your fake tan on your face look a lot more realistic. And then you also use it on your lips."
Then the admission. "I kinda wanted to gatekeep this, I'm not gonna lie, because now I feel like it's gonna be sold out, but this is a really good product."
That is the most reliable endorsement available. Somebody recommending a product while visibly regretting it is not reading from a brief.

The sunscreen that goes on over makeup
Her other beauty essential solves the problem everybody has by mid-afternoon.
Dobre carries Supergoop sunscreen powder, which has a built-in brush and mattifying ingredients, meaning it can go on over a finished face without disturbing it.
"You just pop it on wherever you need for shininess or protection from the sun," she said. "I'm a ginger, so I need a lot of it."
The dual function is why this format has taken over. A powder that handles shine and sun protection in one pass gets reapplied, which is the entire problem with sunscreen and makeup.
The working half of the bag
A power bank, for the cameras and for herself. It is, as she puts it, necessary for content creators walking around, which is a fair description of a job that involves being outside all day with equipment that dies.
She also carries a fragrance she takes everywhere. "It's a very hot day in New York and I bring this with me everywhere," she said. "You'll smell like a cupcake, I promise."
And gum, non-negotiably one brand. "I've always got the Juicy Fruit. I just don't really like any other gum," she said, before asking what the Juicy Fruit hate is about.
The thing that is not a product
The item she showed first is a photograph on her phone.
It is her husband, Mike Ricci, during their civil wedding, kissing her hand in his tuxedo. The couple marked their anniversary on September 4, having also married at a destination wedding in Italy last year.
Her advice to anyone currently planning one is four words long and better than most of what is written on the subject.
"It all works out. Calm down."
That is roughly the register of the whole bag. A working kit, two products that genuinely earn their place, one she resents recommending, and a photograph she keeps where she can find it.
Why this format still works
The what-is-in-your-bag interview has been running in one form or another for decades, and it survives because it is the only celebrity format that cannot easily be staged.
A styled shoot shows what somebody wants to be associated with. A bag shows what they actually reached for on the way out. The power bank is there because the cameras die. The powder is there because the shine returns by two o'clock. The gum is there because she likes that gum and has opinions about people who do not.
None of those are aspirational, which is precisely why the recommendations land. A product that has survived being carried around all summer has passed a test no campaign can replicate.
