Katie Price Explained Exactly What She Had Done, Hours Before Walking the Red Carpet
She described the implants, the filler and the swelling on Instagram the same afternoon, which is a different proposition from arriving and letting people guess.
Katie Price walked the National Television Awards red carpet in London on Tuesday, September 8, with a heavily bronzed face, dark eye makeup and lip liner, and her hair scraped back flat.
Hours earlier she had gone on Instagram and talked her followers through precisely what had been done, and when, and how it currently felt.
What she said about the surgery
Price, 48, a former glamour model whose television work includes Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity MasterChef, described the procedures in the plainest possible terms.
"Because one of my boobs was slightly bigger than the other, they put a new implant in, and while they were there, I asked, put a bit more in both of them," she said.
On her face, she explained the reasoning before the procedure.
"At the same time, where my face is hollow, as you get older and lose weight, I put filler in, obviously, while I'm asleep, and he does it under the muscle right under the bone," she said, pointing to her cheekbones.
Then the part most people would leave out. Nothing was placed in her cheeks, she said, and although the swelling had gone down, she looked like a hamster, and she was sore.
He's got to cover all this up. So, yeah, watch the magic happen
The makeup artist, and why he was new
The face that reached the carpet was the work of someone she had not used before, and the reason was a disagreement about clothes.
"Originally I had a glam squad, but they passed on doing the NTAs because I wouldn't wear the outfits they wanted me to," Price said. "But the outfit I've chosen myself is still different because I don't like to follow what everyone else follows. In a way, they did me a favour by saying they were going to pass on my glam."
Her description of the replacement was enthusiastic and, again, unguarded about the brief he had been handed.
"The person doing my makeup, oh my God, I am so honoured, so lucky. The person is absolutely iconic," she said. "He's got to cover all this up. So, yeah, watch the magic happen."
Covering all this up meant post-surgical swelling, and she said so herself rather than letting anybody else point it out.
The hair was the deliberate part
The extensions came out for the occasion, which for Price is a statement in itself.
"I've taken all my extensions out because the look I want today is the wet look," she said. "I want to have my hair all scraped back as a wet look. This is going to be beyond art, it's iconic."
A slicked-back wet look with no length is the most exposing hairstyle available, since it removes every option for framing or softening the face. Choosing it days after facial filler is not an accident.
What she is actually doing
It would be easy to file this as another chapter in a long public story about cosmetic surgery, and much of the coverage will.
What she has actually done is closer to the opposite of concealment. She named the procedures, explained the reasoning, described the discomfort, identified the swelling, and said out loud that the makeup artist's job was to work around all of it, before anyone had seen a photograph.
There is no version of that which leaves room for a reveal. She had removed the story from anyone else's hands by lunchtime, which after this many years of being written about is probably the point.
